File this under “needs to be said.” Ah well.
The lords of Hollywood, the political elite, the educational elite… these are not uniformly stupid people. Some of them, in fact, are fairly bright. Observing them, however, might lead you to the conclusion that they are blindly stupid or even purposely evil. Nonetheless, most of them are not evil; rather, they are overly-committed narcissists.
(Since Greek mythology hasn’t been taught for a couple of generations, I should add that Narcissus was a young man who became so enamored with his own beauty – staring into a mirror – that he ended up dying from it.)
Bear in mind, please, that to be tied to a cause, and to have that association firmly in the minds of millions of people, not to mention the people who control your career… and to then turn around and reject it… that requires a level of courage that few possess.
And so such people need to keep up their image, even as one part of them recognizes that they’ve gone too far. These people need CNN and the others. They need to look into a mirror that tells them they’re still the fairest in the land.
Bear in mind that very few people watch CNN these days; their numbers are horrible. But those who need it really need it. And since those clinging to institutional control are badly in need of such a Narcissan mirror, they will fight to keep it in place.
The people doing this at present, at least in the West, are overwhelmingly of the political Left. That’s not to say that conservatives never do this; assuredly they do. But let’s be honest and admit that the Entitled Left is does it far more; they’ve owned the institutions for a couple of generations after all. And, so far, few of them have had the guts to change their minds.
Ever since the democratic model took shape, the beliefs of the masses have been, to the intellectual classes, the mirror of Narcissus. Gazing into that mirror, they see their own glory. But that’s getting beyond our main point for today, which is simply that CNN and its ilk have become the mirror of Narcissus to the entitled classes of America.
So, when you can’t understand the actions of the self-important faces on TV, try substituting this for stupid or evil.

Do you find any connections between Narcissus and the current POTUS?
I’m pretty sure you’re not doing it intentionally, but you’re rather forcing me to praise Mr. Trump.
Of course almost every politician has some Narcissus in him or her, but Mr. Trump has had to move forward with nearly every media, intellectual and esteemed voice on the planet trashing him. And not just once in a while, but 24/7, day after day and year after year.
Who among the CNN-approved crowd would have gone through that?
Peace.
